The 7th Malaysia Memory Championship, organized by the Malaysia Memory Sports Organization and officially recognized by the World Memory Sports Council (WMSC), successfully concluded on November 16 in Kuala Lumpur.
This year’s championship welcomed 33 outstanding competitors from Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, and other states, along with a special participant from France. Competitors ranged from 7 to 68 years old, showcasing the inclusiveness and nationwide participation of memory sports.

Son Kian Chee Won Overall Champion for the Second Time —
A Strong Proof That Age Is No Barrier
Representing Perak, 44-year-old Son Kian Chee delivered a powerful performance in the adult category and once again secured the Overall Champion title.
This marks his second overall victory, demonstrating that:
Excellent memory skills are not limited to young competitors
Proper methods matter more than age
Consistent training is more important than innate talent
His achievement became one of the biggest highlights of the event, inspiring adults across the nation to believe that they too can achieve excellence.

Another remarkable moment of this year’s competition came from 68-year-old Chin Kooi Lan. With solid techniques and unwavering composure, she won gold medals in all seven disciplines, achieving zero major mistakes throughout the competition.
Her performance proves:

✔ With proper techniques and practice, one can even surpass younger competitors
This year’s championship truly showcased heartwarming scenes of both young and senior competitors excelling side by side, affirming that memory sports offer equal opportunities across all ages.
Memory Can Be Trained
Showcasing the Power of Effort and Method
International Memory Master Teo Kim Foo, President of the Malaysia Memory Sports Organization, stated that since the organization was established in 2015, it has been dedicated to promoting memory education and competitions nationwide. He emphasized:
- Memory is not rote memorization
- Memory ability is not fixed or innate
- With scientific techniques, memory can be greatly improved
- Age is not a limitation — methods and training are the true keys
This year’s results strongly validated that memory can be enhanced through systematic training, often allowing adults and seniors to outperform the younger generation.
The championship aims to help Malaysians truly understand that memory training is a life skill that everyone can learn and benefit from.
Road to the World Stage:
Qualifying Event for the 34th World Memory Championship (Vietnam, December 12–14, 2025)
This competition also served as Malaysia’s official national selection, where the top five competitors earned the right to represent Malaysia in the 34th World Memory Championship to be held in Vietnam.
- The Only WMSC-Recognized Memory Championship in Malaysia
- This event is Malaysia’s sole championship formally recognized by the World Memory Sports Council (WMSC).
All competitors’ scores will be uploaded to the official WMSC global database, making it the highest-standard memory competition in the country.
The competition followed the official “One-Day National Standard,” featuring multiple 5-minute core disciplines:
- Names & Faces
- Random Words
- Fictional Historical Dates & Events
- Abstract Images
- Speed Numbers
- Speed Cards
These disciplines test memory, concentration, stress resistance, spatial imagination, and creativity.
