In light of the unprecedented global circumstances that led to a shift in our championship format, we are implementing a special categorization for the records achieved during these years. Specifically, the records achieved during the years 2020, 2021, and 2022 will be officially recognized as Online World Records.
Understanding the distinctive nature of the circumstances surrounding these events, we believe that designating these records as online World Records appropriately reflects the unique challenges and adaptations faced by our participants during this period. This decision aims to acknowledge the commendable efforts and achievements of our participants who demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in adapting to the online format of the championship.
Looking ahead to the upcoming year, 2023, we are committed to maintaining the integrity and consistency of the World Memory Championship records. Therefore, for the year 2023, the standard reference for world records will be based on the achievements of the 2019 world record. This approach ensures a clear and recognized benchmark for all future championship records, facilitating a fair and consistent evaluation of participants’ performances.
We believe that these adjustments uphold the prestige and honour associated with the world memory championship, while also acknowledging the unique circumstances that have shaped the recent editions of the championship.
